Windshield Wiper and Washer Switch Replacement

Wipers and Washers

Preliminary Procedures

1. Steering Column Lower Trim Cover Replacement.

2. Reposition the steering column upper trim cover as necessary.

  1. Windshield Wiper and Washer Switch

Procedure

  1. Disconnect the electrical connector.
  2. Release the retaining tabs and remove the windshield wiper and washer switch from the turn signal switch bracket.

WINDSHIELD WASHER NOZZLE HOSE REPLACEMENT

Removal Procedure

1. Windshield Washer Nozzle Replacement - Disconnect.

Windshield Washer Nozzle Hose (1) @ Hood - Remove.

3. Unlock the retaining tabs.

4.

Wipers and Washers

Remove the 3 windshield washer nozzle hose retainer (1).

5. Windshield Washer Nozzle Hose (2) @ Windshield Washer Pump Hose (3) - Disconnect.

6. Windshield Washer Nozzle Hose (2) - Remove.

Installation Procedure

1.

Windshield Washer Nozzle Hose (2) - Install.

2. Windshield Washer Nozzle Hose (2) @ Windshield Washer Pump Hose (3) - Connect.

3. Install the 3 windshield washer nozzle hose retainer (1).

4.

Windshield Washer Nozzle Hose (1) @ Hood - Install.

5. Windshield Washer Nozzle Replacement - Connect.

WINDSHIELD WASHER NOZZLE REPLACEMENT

Wipers and Washers

  1. Windshield Washer Nozzle [2x]

Procedure

  1. Unlock the retaining tabs.
  2. Disconnect the windshield washer hose. [2x]
  3. Windshield Washer Nozzle - Check and Adjust [2x]

NOTE: The windshield washer nozzles are normally already adjusted correctly by the supplier. But there might be some production variations that could cause missadjustment of the washer nozzles for that vehicle.

WINDSHIELD WASHER NOZZLE ADJUSTMENT

NOTE: All adjustments must be completed with the hood assembly in the FULL closed position.

1. Make sure that the hood is adjusted to the correct specifications.

Check the windshield washer nozzle spray pattern. The windshield washer nozzle (1) must spray onto the shown areas of the windshield.

3. Using a suitable tool, adjust the washer nozzle (1), if necessary.

Rear End Spoiler Replacement (5-Door Wagon 35).

  1. Rear Window Washer Nozzle

Procedure

  1. Use a suitable tool.
  2. Unlock the retaining tabs.

Procedure

  1. Unlock the retaining tabs.
  2. Use a flat bladed plastic trim tool.

WINDSHIELD WASHER PUMP HOSE REPLACEMENT

Removal Procedure

1. Front Bumper Fascia Replacement - Remove.

Windshield Washer Pump Hose (1) @ Windshield Washer Pump (2) - Disconnect.

3. Unlock the retaining tabs.

Windshield Washer Pump Hose Retainer (3) - Remove [6x].

5. Windshield Washer Pump Hose (2) @ Windshield Washer Nozzle Hose (1) - Disconnect.

6. Windshield Washer Pump Hose (2) - Remove.

Installation Procedure

1.

Windshield Washer Pump Hose (2) - Install.

2. Windshield Washer Pump Hose (2) @ Windshield Washer Nozzle Hose (1) - Connect.

3. Windshield Washer Pump Hose Retainer (3) - Install [6x].

4.

Windshield Washer Pump Hose (1) @ Windshield Washer Pump (2) - Connect.

5. Front Bumper Fascia Replacement - Install.

Open and support the hood.

  1. Windshield Washer Solvent Container Filler Tube Retainer
  2. Windshield Washer Solvent Container Filler Tube

WINDSHIELD WASHER SOLVENT CONTAINER FILLER TUBE SEAL REPLACEMENT

Preliminary Procedure

Windshield Washer Solvent Container Filler Tube Replacement.

  1. Windshield Washer Solvent Container Filler Tube Seal

Procedure

  1. Carefully squeeze the seal while using a flat-bladed tool to pry upward under the edge of the seal.
  2. When installing a new seal, use full strength windshield washer fluid as a lubricant on the seal.
  3. Place the seal to the windshield washer solvent container.
  4. Use the palm of the hand to seat the seal into the windshield washer solvent container.

  1. Windshield Washer Solvent Container Nut [3x]
    CAUTION: Fastener Caution
    Tighten 9 N.m (80 lb in)
  2. Windshield Washer Solvent Container
    Procedure
    Disconnect the electrical connector.

    CAUTION: Fastener Caution
    Tighten 9 N.m (80 lb in)
  2. Windshield Washer Solvent Container
    Procedure
    1. Disconnect all electrical connectors.
    2. Transfer components as necessary.

DASH UPPER EXTENSION PANEL OPENING COVER REPLACEMENT

Air Inlet Grille Panel Replacement.

  1. Dash Upper Extension Panel Opening Cover Bolt [6x]
    CAUTION: Fastener Caution
    Tighten 4.5 N.m (40 lb in)

Windshield Wiper Arm Replacement - Remove [2x].

  1. Air Inlet Grille Panel Retainer [6x]

    Procedure
    Unlock the retaining tabs.

AIR INLET GRILLE PANEL WATER DEFLECTOR REPLACEMENT

Air Inlet Grille Panel Replacement.

  1. Air Inlet Grille Water Deflector
    Procedure
    Release the integral clips and remove the water deflector from the dash panel plenum rotating up and out.

WINDSHIELD WIPER ARM REPLACEMENT

Preliminary Procedure

Open and support the hood.

  1. Windshield Wiper Arm Nut Cap
    Procedure
    Use a small flat-bladed tool in order to release the cap from the wiper arm.
  2. Windshield Wiper Arm Nut
    CAUTION: Refer to Fastener Caution.
    Tighten
    38 N.m (28 lb ft)
  3. Windshield Wiper Arm Procedure
    1. Grasp the outer end of the wiper arm and gently rock the arm back and forth while holding the wiper blade off the windshield.
    2. Lift the arm assembly from the wiper motor pivot shaft.
    3. Clean the knurls on the wiper motor pivot shaft with a soft wire brush.

REAR WINDOW WIPER ARM REPLACEMENT (5-DOOR HATCHBACK 68)

Wipers and Washers

  1. Rear Window Wiper Arm Finish Cap
  2. Rear Window Wiper Arm Nut
    CAUTION: Fastener Caution
    Tighten 10 N.m (89 lb in)
  3. Rear Window Wiper Arm

Procedure

  1. Use the J-39822 Wiper Arm Puller to remove the windshield wiper arm from the windshield wiper transmission pivot shaft.
  2. Clean the pivot shaft knurls with a soft wire brush before installing a new windshield wiper arm.
  3. Align and position the wiper arm on the wiper motor pivot shaft.
  4. Cycle the wiper arm with a spray of solvent, PARK the wiper arm and re-check the alignment of the wiper arm.

  1. Rear Window Wiper Arm Finish Cap
  2. Rear Window Wiper Arm Nut
    CAUTION: Fastener Caution
    Tighten 10 N.m (89 lb in)
  3. Rear Window Wiper Arm

Procedure

  1. Use the J-39822 Wiper Arm Puller to remove the windshield wiper arm from the windshield wiper transmission pivot shaft.

  1. Rear Window Wiper Motor Bolt [3x]

    Tighten 9 N.m (80 lb in)
  2. Rear Window Wiper Motor
    Procedure
    Disconnect the electrical connector.

  1. Windshield Wiper Transmission Bolt [3x]
    CAUTION: Refer to Fastener Caution.
    Tighten
    8 N.m (71 lb in)
  2. Windshield Wiper Transmission
    Procedure
    1. Slide the windshield wiper transmission inboard to release the grommet from the plenum.
    2. Disconnect the electrical connector.
    3. Remove the windshield wiper transmission from the vehicle.
    4. Transfer components as necessary.
